FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT IN MY FIRST VISIT?

Your first visit we will talk about your health history, any relevant medical history, what your symptoms are and what your goals for treatment are.  We will then start a physical examination including but not limited to: posture assessment, joint mobility, flexibility, strength, and a breathing assessment.  Sessions always start examining externally, fully clothed.  If we think we will gain knowledge with an internal pelvic floor examination we will discuss this option.  As with all examination options YOU have the choice to decline or accept.

WILL I SEE MULTIPLE PROVIDERS AND AIDES?

No, your visits will be one on one with your therapist each session.

HOW LONG ARE THE APPOINTMENTS?

Appointments are usually 2 hours for evaluations and 1 hour per follow up session,  we do offer 2 hour follow-up sessions and 1 hour evaluations if those work better based off of your symptoms, travel time and available time.

DO I HAVE TO HAVE AN INTERNAL EXAM?

NO!  We can learn alot about how your pelvic floor functions without ever doing an internal exam.  If you do not feel comfortable with this option for any reason we will not do one. Some patients deny internal exams on initial evaluation and want one later, some never want an internal exam and some schedule specifically because they want an internal exam.  YOU are in control of your body and the decisions to be made for your body.

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO SEE YOU TO GET BETTER?

It depends.  Terrible answer but it's true.

We see some patients just one time to get an assessment and home exercise program going.

We tend to see patients who are very symptomatic 1 time per week or every other week for a few weeks, this is considerably less often than a traditional physical therapist.  We are able to treat one on one for longer sessions so that the patient is educated in their treatment and able to learn how to treat themselves.  Patients are given thorough home exercise programs and can check in with questions in between appointments.

A great option for many is a virtual session to update a home exercise program when things are going well.  We love the flexibility of this option.

I'M NOT PREGNANT OR POSTPARTUM, CAN YOU STILL SEE ME?

YES!! Contact us with any questions you have but we see many people with pelvic floor and ortho concerns that are not pregnant or postpartum.

I HAD MY LAST BABY 30 YEARS AGO, CAN YOU STILL SEE ME?
